50 Years of Research, Still No Change in Policy

Educational institutions have been trying to show policymakers the issue of police presence in schools for DECADES.

In the 1970s, the National Education Association (NEA) passed a resolution calling for an end to police in schools.

In 2020, the NEA passed ANOTHER resolution calling for an end to police in schools.

ACLU

The resolution states:

“The presence of police in schools creates a hostile learning environment for students of color and students with disabilities, and it criminalizes students for minor behavioral infractions.”

The resolution called on the NEA to work with its affiliates to “advocate for the removal of police from schools and the reinvestment of those resources into school counselors, social workers, and other mental health professionals.

OK. Soooo,

50 YEARS LATER, WHY ARE WE STILL HERE??

We are wondering the same thing!!! To be continued…

Other educational organizations that have called for an end to police in schools include

  • American Federation of Teachers
  • National Association of School Psychologists
  • National Association of Secondary School Principals
